We are used to the fact that when it comes to microorganisms, we mean mainly some harmful bacteria. However, beneficial microorganisms are widespread in nature. One of these are lactobacilli, which form lactic acid, which has a positive effect on the intestine, and some types of bacilli, secreting digestive enzymes and help in this way to effectively digest food. Extremely important for the digestion of ruminants are rumen microorganisms, which help to destroy the fiber and turn it into nutrients that are absorbed in the following parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Most beneficial bacteria compete with opportunistic bacteria through so-called “competitive repression.” Kolonizuyuchis on the surface of the intestinal epithelium, beneficial bacteria capture free space and do not allow harmful microorganisms there. In scientific terminology, these beneficial bacteria are called probiotic, and the drugs produced on their basis-probiotics. Probiotic and prebiotic drugs can be combined in many cases, achieving a synergistic effect. This is quite logical, especially since some types of prebiotics are products of the activity of probiotic bacteria. For example, the prebiotic lactic acid is formed by lactic acid bacteria, the prebiotic propionic acid is formed by propionic acid bacteria, and the like. Probiotic and prebiotic drugs have fundamental advantages over feed antibiotics, they do not accumulate in the body, do not cause the formation of resistant forms of bacteria. Such preparations can be used during the entire period of animal rearing, up to the slaughter, and the products obtained with the use of these preparations are environmentally friendly.
Probiotics and prebiotics are of great importance for the silage of feed and for the storage of feed raw materials. Beneficial bacteria and products of their secretion prevent the development of mold fungi, the accumulation of mycotoxins, which makes it possible to reduce the toxicity of feed, improve feed conversion and absorption of nutrients.
The industry of probiotics and prebiotics is widely developed in the world, including in the CIS countries. The preparation contributes to the preservation of protein (more than 93%) and the overall nutritional value of silage. Enzymes contained in Lactoflora destroy plant polysaccharides, forming simple carbohydrates, which is a nutrient substrate for lactic acid bacteria.
